My Daily Bread has listed Blueberries and Blackberries on the Market for this Thursday. Dabrielle and Bruce do not spray nor use any chemicals on their plants or berries. Grab them quickly! If Dabrielle and Bruce are able to harvest enough on Thursday morning, we will have some of both Blackberries and Blueberries on the Farmer Sales Table!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We enjoyed the fireworks in Canton and the Creator’s light show also. The black clouds and thunder set a magnificent backdrop for the fireworks.
The freezers are full of beef, chicken and pork. We have plenty of butter and the cheese is being shipped. One of our fellow food enthusiasts just returned from a road trip where she visited Meadow Valley Farm and the family that makes our butter. She had nothing but good things to say about the people and the operations. I look forward to the pictures she is going to share and hope to share more with all of you.
We have plenty of wonderful vegetables to choose from this week as well as baked goods. Please place your orders before 8:00 pm. WE will see you Wednesday.

Hello, all! I’ve not much to report this week. I’m out of the state, up in Missouri to help the community my dad loved and taught say goodbye to him. I won’t be at the ALG pickups on Thursday, but our team of wonderful volunteers will keep everything running in my absence. The volunteers will see you on Thursday, and I’ll see you when I return the following week.
Thanks so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!
Other Area Farmers Markets
The Athens Farmers Market is open on Saturdays at Bishop Park and Wednesday afternoons downtown at Creature Comforts. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market from the Athens Land Trust is open Saturday mornings and their farm stand is open Tuesday afternoons. They have a website too. A new Athens Sunday market has opened up at the Classic Center, every Sunday from 11 to 4 now through October. They have a website here: http://www.sundaycentermarket.com. The Comer Farmers Market is open in downtown Comer on Saturday mornings. The Oconee County farmers market is open Saturday mornings in front of the Oconee County Courthouse in Watkinsville. The Shields Ethridge Cultivator Market is held monthly in Jefferson. If you know of any markets operating, please let me know.
All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We will have a great market box this week with corn, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and more. Order up and enjoy.
We are also taking the last few turkey reservations and starting our next round of hog reservations.

Forest Run is starting to see some of the warm weather crops. If an item is at (0), exact, in the listing that comes out with this blog, that means FRF farm is hoping that it ripens by Friday. As happened this past Friday, the weather provides pleasant surprises too with what is ripening, so be sure to check out the listing when you get to the farm to fill out your order.
